I recently upgraded to Shaw 50 internet and am having problems with range, I have two routers but only one modem, and was wondering if I should put a wifi extender (what is the best) on the modem or if I should hook up a second modem closer to where I am currently working. If I hook up a second modem I will add a third as well.

Asus Sabertooth Z77, Intel 3770K 4.6GHz @ 1.33V, EVGA GTX670, Corsair Vengeance 16GB RAM, and Corsair 800D

Its always best if could run a wire to where you need a connection. From what I understand you have a router/modem in one and a separate router somewhere else ?

If you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty, you could install dd-wrt on a spare router and turn that into a wi-fi extender (its a bit ghetto, but it works). And correct me if i'm wrong I don't think you can run 2 modems on one connection.

Something wrong with your connection ?

Run the damn cable :)

depends on where you live. I have seen places use inner pair and outer pair for 2 separate connections. but generally speaking you are correct.
