NAS Recommendations + Personal Cloud

I am thinking of buying a NAS box for home backups + use as a media server for various devices around my house (R Pi, Xbox 360/Xbox One & Media PCs). I would also like to create a personal cloud to keep files synced between my desktop and laptop, with the NAS box serving as a central location which is always on.

 

For the NAS I am leaning towards a Drobo 5N because of the ease of use and flexibility.

 

For cloud software I have been looking at Bit Torrent Sync, which I will have a play with this weekend.

 

Does anyone out there have any suggestions from their own experience of NAS boxes and personal cloud setups.
