Asus K551LN mic recognizing issues

So my friend has Asus K551LN with windows 8.1, and she just bought a logitech g230 headset. The problem is that the computer has only one audio output and the headset has 2 inputs, so she bought an adapter. The headset worked fine along with the mic, but not for long. For some reason it stopped working and the computer won't recognize the mic anymore. The audio works fine on the headset but the mic is the issue, the computer uses its internal mic since it doesn't recognize the external one. Any audio pros out there who could help?
