Guys,

I'm planning to make a budget Hackintosh so I need to know what the best value intel processor is, I personally favor the i5's but I'm open to other options but i basically just need to know what the best processor for it is. I do a lot of heavy gaming but mostly TF2, you might ask why I'm bothering with a hackintosh but i want it to dual boot so i can game on it and also video edit and record music on logic and garageband etc. now you see why I need a hackintosh. Also you may as well tell me the GPU to go with the CPU and while I'm at it what version of windows would be best? 7 or 8?

Thanks a mill  :D

if you need productivity for content creation and you got the money to spare might as well go for an i7 then? unless there are issues with hackintosh and i7, which i doubt if i5 works fine? and gpu just whatever best for your budget?

and i personally prefer windows 7, hate windows 8 cause i cannot find anything where i think it should be. preference i guess?

I know that you might be partial to garage band and other software but you really can find good audio and video apps for windows still. Not saying that cause I hate macs but because a hackintosh can be it's own set of nightmares to get working.

That being said if you're considering an i5 I say the 4440 or 4690k depending on whenever you want to overclock or not. Most of people recommend the 4460 or the 4590 but imo the gains on those are very marginal you're paying too much for 0.1 to 0.5 ghz difference which is next to nothing.

But if you can afford it 4770 but again that can easily put you out of budget, all depends on how much money you have.

For a good DAW I'd recomend Reaper: a personal license is only USD 60 but it is a very solid recording platform.

And yes the 4690k is a nice for overcloaks but you gotta factor in a good cooler and case too which all add to the price, you should think about whenever you want to overclock or not for what you want it doesn't sounds like you'll need to overclock and a much more significant gain in performance would be to leave it open to upgrade to a 4770k in the future instead and just go with the 4440 for now, I think it will do just fine for what you need while keeping your budget under control

understood but if i just go with the 4440 it will take ages for me to find the funds for a 4770k and (im only 14 so) i cant buy software but i can make a computer if u see where im coming from

$160 for cpu and $130 for gpu?

Flip your prices around. I'd say get an fx6300 and for a gpu...well just try to expand the budget. Most cards under 200$ are not worth their weight in piss.

Z77A-G43 LGA 1155, Intel I5 3450s, Radeon R9 290 (non-X), Cooler Master V750 Gold (750W) PSU, 2x4GB Ripjaws X 1866 MHz, 1x4 Crucial 1866 MHz, Samsung 840 Evo 500GB, Thor V2 Full-tower Case, Acer 1920x1080 Monitor

what i mean't is most people hate the reconfigure on where stuff goes on windows 8, also the metro stuff, i tried it and it just frustrated me beyond belief because whenever i do something it defaulted to the metro tiles, i just got fed up with it and rolled back to windows 7, because it doesn't really offer that much to me and isn't worth the bother of going roundabouts to set it up the way things are where i want them.

i personally would consider a 3rd gen i7 instead of the 4th gen i5 too, as a used one (3770) could probably be found cheaper than 4690k, if you're not dedicated to the platform yet (haven't got all the other parts.). just throwing this out there.

if u do get 4690k, you can get a 270x from powercolor for 120£ too, or 270 for 100£ish, new, and still be within budget, able to play pretty much all modern titles at 1080p and pretty damn decent settings.

great thanks but i dont think powercolor is compatible with a hackintosh so i'll probably go for a nvidea or amd

sorry, PowerColor Radeon R9 270X. its the cheapest one on part picker, but might find a cheaper one by shopping around more. sapphire r9 270x used to be at as low as 100£ earlier too but i don't see that anymore.

point is if u do go for 4690k, you can still get an amd r9 card which will do perfectly well for majority of games without issues.
