Budget is 750? Evga classified 980. Nothing else comes close except the kingpin obviously but unless you are on ln2 it's a waste. Either that or two 970s.

If you just want to get a 4K display to work you just need a good mid tier GPU but if you want to game, on it then it is a whole other story. You better look into getting a display with g-sync or freesync coz even the best single GPU solutions would not let you hit 60 FPS at very high settings (Unless you are fine with running it at medium to high, which beats the purpose for getting 4K, rather get a good 1440p Display). Also make sure to get something larger than 26 Inch or you don't really get the benefit of having 4K.

Personally I would stick with 1080 till 4k support becomes more widespread.

I love my 4k monitors but every single day there is some reason it annoys me,  todays reason is Lettings websites are impossible to use.....  yesterdays reason was google maps (loads so much more of the map it takes a lot longer and is a lot slower)

A little knowledge is very dangerous

I suspect he means $750 in total (monitor + upgrades), though he has been quite vague, and it would help to know his current system specs.

As for monitors, a number of Korean 4k displays have popped up recently, which would leave you a bit of cash for an upgrade to your GPUs. If you already have a 290/290x/780/780ti/970 it might be possible to get the monitor and a decent gaming experience within $750 by getting the monitor plus a second one of those GPUs.

heres some free advice:

buy the monitor first... then worry about gpu`s

Acer XB270HU - 27inch, IPS, 2560x1440, 144hz, gsync
ASUS MG279Q - 27inch, IPS, 2560x1440, 120hz, freesync
Acer XR341CK - 34inch, IPS, 3440x1440, 144hz, gsync

These are the 3 only ones there are that have the new AHVA panel = ips with tn response times basically

If he's already got a decent PC then I think it's doable - at least, it's doable for not much more. As I said, if he already has one high-end GPU, a 4k monitor plus a second GPU won't set him back much more than his budget, if at all.

what do you want to do with your display? if you want to game hard, then 4k is not really an option. however, if you want to do photo/design/dev work, then a solid professional-series 4k display is totally worth it.

i mainly use my 4k screen for photo work, but the gaming experience is also pleasurable with AA turned off and detail kept to "high"
