Cassette replacement for festivals?

I have been using cassette tapes for when I go to music festivals, as you need to have music with you while being in the campsite area. Problem is, it's not the easiest format to bring with you. You need to record everything and then there's the issue of audio quality. We used to bring in car batteries to power the boombox but pretty much no festival in sweden allows that anymore. We've tried CDs but they keep getting droped and break (remember, we're all drunk off our asses for a week) and MP3 players dont have the needed lifetime.

 

Any suggestions? Remember this thing has to be able to run off batteries as we dont have access to wall power.

I would suggest getting a boom box that has a USB port so you have have all of your music inside a single flash drive.

So you bust iPods when drunk?  I've been to college and seen ones that lived through vomit, toilet water, and getting tossed out 3rd story windows.  That's gotta take some doing!  What are you guys drinking in Sweden, anyways?

It's a pretty sound prediction when someone mentions an MP3 player

I meant battery life. We dont treat stuff that bad :).
