Ok so I just recently built my system with an FX 8320. I haven't overclocked it yet so it's still at its stock clock speed which is 3.5Ghz. I was playing TF2 on singleplayer (training mode) and it generally plays at 60fps, but when a lot is going on in the game, the frame rate dips to about 40. Now, this isn't bad and the game is by no means unplayable (because online play runs extremely smoothly and that's what I play most of the time) but I've seen a number of people on Youtube doing the exact same thing and they report no dips whatsoever. Is there a setting in the BIOS that I'm missing here that's underclocking the CPU to save power or something? Please don't start with the whole AMD vs Intel thing.....I'm so tired of that....Thanks so much for your help!

In the options there was a checkbox saying "Multi core rendering" or something like that. I have no idea what it does but if it enables more core usage, I'd suggest you check it and try again.

EDIT:

In Video-> Advanced -> Multicore rendering to Enabled.
See if that helps.

Yeah that's enabled already. I have a laptop with an i7 4700MQ and it runs that part of the game just fine. I know the FX isn't the best CPU out there (please don't even start) but I feel like it should be able to run this portion of the game just as well as the my i7 can, especially if some other people were able to achieve it.

It's an old game, mostly single-threaded. I had the same problem with my old Core 2 Quad CPU, but after upgrading to an i5-4690K get like 200 fps lol

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W
