The water can expand slightly when it gets hot, thats physics. So you should leave some air in it so the extra pressure can compress that, not expand your tubes and potentially make a tube come off the fitting. (Only if you messed something up horribly while installing the fitting.)

As long as you have enough water to make sure the exit of the reservoir will always have water over it then you're fine. You should also make sure the entrance to the res is underwater so you don't get an annoying waterfall noise in your PC.

After that its just a case of preference. Remember, the water in your loop will never evaporate as its a closed loop and so will never go below the amount you poured in (post-bleeding).

The best idea is to leave a tiny amount of air at the top of your res.

If anyone is interested the thermal expansion of water between 4C to 100C is ~5%

Lets say you have 1 liter of water in your system because that's about average. Lets also say that your water is goes up 20-30C in temp. So even if it expands by 2% that's theoretically 20 extra ml of space the water is taking up. Lets not forget evaporation at higher temps too that will presumably occur in the air bubbles increasing their pressure.

Better leave a few cm^3 of air in your res to compensate for anything that may happen. Its not like its beneficial to fill it up to the top.

Doesn't really matter one way or another. Just remember that if you fill it to the top while running it will overflow when off (the level rises when turned off). Fill it when the pump is not running...
