I just ordered my first SSD and am going to use it as a boot/game drive. Is there an easy way to move the OS and steam library from my HDD to the SSD easily whilst keeping my user profile and other documents in tact? Or will I need to back up my HDD, format it, then do a clean install of windows?

Thanks in advance :)

You could always do a fresh install, then change where the Steam folder is located and copy all of your games over?

Not sure how well Steam works for that, though, since I don't use it.

Didn't think about that. Will have a look into it because that would be the majority of my games. Cheers :)

Plug your HDD in as a second drive and fresh install onto your SSD. Move your entire steam directory from your old drive to your new drive and create a shortcut to the steam.exe file. Run it and continue as normal. If you want to keep your saves you will have to copy your files across from multiple directories. I'll list the most common Below:

C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\Documents\

C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\

C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Local\

C:\ProgramData\

C:\Users\Public\

I don't know if 7 uses this but also

C:\Users\[DOCUMENTS]\Saved Games\

Then just move the folders of the games you have into the same directory on your new drive.
