Boot SSD

Go to solution Solved by Captain_WD,

Good day everyone!

I'm currently building my new rig and I still need a boot drive. It will only be used for Windows and applications, so 120/128 GB are fine. I've been looking at tons of different drives, but I still can't decide.. Also I don't really know if to look for IOPS or MB/s (read a lot of articles and forum posts but everyone keeps telling different things).

I really want fast boot-up speeds and fast reads, but probably the most important aspects for me are reliability and endurance.

So it came down to two drives: The 120GB Intel 530 as it's told that Intel has incredible reliability and the 120GB HyperX 3k from Kingston because it was one of the best in TechReport's endurance test.

So, which one should I get? Or should i ditch both of them and go for none of these two?

Thanks in advance,

RT

Hey rtsummit,

Pretty much any SSD would be fast enough for consumer-level usage. They have great read/write speeds and the difference between models is neglectible for normal usage. I would say look for the best $/GB ratio, longest warranty and best reputation. :)
Do have in mind that WIndows as an OS takes about 35GB of storage space and SSDs generally require 12%-15% of free space in order to function optimally which would leave you with about 75GB usable storage space.
