Okay, bit weird of a question, but if you put ECC memory in a regular board will it work without the ECC functionality.

It's actually a great deal cheaper for me to get ECC memory dimm's through a buddy of mine and if it will work then that will be a huge boost because I can get 2gb dimms for $10 a dimm and up to 18 dimms. In Aus memory usually runs about $50 for 4gb for the slow stuff so this could potentially be huge discounts for me.

If nobody knows then I'll probably just grab one or two dimms tomorrow for a test and see how it goes.

Yeah I might just get 2 dimms tomorrow and test it out on a few boards to see how it goes. I can't really find much info on it at all though

it will just register it as normal ram without the ecc part so you are settled my friend :)

Just wondering, for ECC to error correct, do both the board and the cpu need to support it? So popping an i3 (most of which support ecc afaik) into a z87 won't make it error correct?
