So i've recently run into this new firmware while upgrading a friends EA4500 and i was wondering what other people think of this firmware.

Specific things that i noticed are

The layouts very strange and takes time to get used to, had a hard time finding simple things like port forwarding and dhcp reservation.

A big thing for me is it will be easier to fix his router over the net because you have to setup an account, for me i would not like this type

of thing where i had to sign into a service to access my lan connected router, but for this situation i think it will work.

Unfortunately it was necessary to upgrade the firmware because there was a bunch of issues that could not be fixed by changing options alone.

So how do you all feel about this?

As a server administrator who does not have access to their servers on a daily basis it is crucial to have access to your router outside of your network, ie over the internet. In your instance you want to have access to your friend's router over the internet so that you can troubleshoot any of his problems, this is no different that what I am currently doing. I believe your main gripe of this feature is that you are going to Cisco's website (or some for of it) to get access to this router. Now I would normally just suggest installing some third party firmware, such as DD-WRT, but in this instance DD-WRT does not suppor the EA4500 so you are out of luck there. Another option is to create a VPN to a computer inside the network, and then visit the router's configuration page but this just seems like a poor way to do it. So in my opinion your best option is to use Cisco's service in order to administrate this router.

I apologize if this does not answer anything, but I just wanted to throw it out there.
