750w or 650w?

Hi all,

 

Im buying a new PSU as mine has blown up. But Im not sure weather to go for a 750w or 650w PSU? can anyone help?

 

My specs are:

Case: NZXT Phantom 530 (on its way, just ordered)

MB: Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P

Ram: 8GB Kingston

CPU: AMD FX 4170 @ 4.2Ghz

1 HDD

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 @ 2048 MB

No Optical Drive

WFi PCI-E

You could get by with a 450-500W PSU on that system.

My guess is that you're more than fine with either. You can probably get away with a 500W as well. It should only be using 350W-ish. It depends on how much expandability you really want. I don't believe it particularly hurts your system to get more than you need (but it may hurt your wallet). I'm not 100% sure though. Just make sure it's 80+ Bronze and of good quality, at least.

i would say no higher than a 550W as you would be spending you're cash unnecessarily, something like the CX500 or if you want something more high end RM550, only ever used corsair PSU's so cant recommend others personally, hope this helps.

I'm going to go with a 600-650w just for the extra power if necessary.

 

I've been looking at the beQuiet PowerZone 650w modular PSU? Is this a decent buy and worth the £70-£80 it is priced at?

Sadly, when inputting a few random postal code from the UK, shipping cost is about £24 with £17 tax - making it over £100, when you try to buy it off of Newegg.

Do you have any future upgrade plans? SLI/CFX? Because your system, ATM can be powered on a quality 400w. Nope, no really purposeful upgrades, just pieces now and then that will be uesful
