So my university plan to buy some Raspberry Pi for some fun training session, so they want to buy some very basic one with the wifi shield to send data to it as well. So Anyone have any idea which version should we buy as the most basic one?

Well If it was me i would get the new Version 2 there only $35-45 which is about the same as the model B but with 2x the ram which makes programs and general use much better.  Also if its a University they have the money to spend an extra $5.00

Nice. That's all we will need to start programming on it right? I'm completely blind on this whole Raspberry thing :P

What about the wifi shield?

What about the wifi shield?

For a Raspberry Pi to work you need an SD card (Mirco for the Verson 2) standard for the B,A,. and I use a wifi Dongle and just put it in one of the USB Ports

I also got one of these for mine http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA10V1Z70929&cm_re=logitech_keyboard_with_track_pad-_-9SIA10V1Z70929-_-Product

other things you may need is a Cellphone USB charger and a HDMI cable and something to hook it to.

So you need a SD card to act as the memory storage for it, wifi is basically just wifi usb stick, the charger to power it (do it have build in battery?) and the hdmi to display what on it right?

For the SD card it can be any SD card right? So what's this thing?

NO. The Raspberry Pi A+, B+ and Rev2 use a micro SD. A normal SD card won't work.

My bad. I was wondering what's the NOOBS thing is and why is the 8GB MicroSD card on that site is more expensive compare to normal microSD

NOOBS is the operating system. It's a distribution of linux, and my experience with it was great! It's essentially plug-and-play, so if you've never used linux before you don't have anything to be afraid of.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that the microsd card is more expensive on that site because it comes with an adapter. The adapter is the size of a regular SD card and will allow you to plug it into your everyday computer to put different files on it. It's handy to have, but I wouldn't say it's totally necessary.

The normal one with the adapter is around 300 baht here, while that one is at 450 baht. I guess it just for the convenient sake of not having to install NOOBS.

If you look around for a guide on how to install NOOBS onto a flash drive and you feel comfortable doing it, I would skip the pricey card and just get a blank card for less. I've installed distributions of linux on computers before and it isn't terribly hard, so I imagine doing it for the Pi is even easier. Good luck!
