So, should I stick with the Asus Maximus VII Hero and the black and red NZXT H440 for a black and red build, or the MSI Z97 SLI Krait with the black and white H440 and rgb leds for a more classic look and customisable rainbows?

If I was you, I would go with the white H440, white leds and the Krait board. White with black accents just looks more classy imo. Red and black is so... normal when it comes to computer cases and builds. Stand out my friend!

ohhhh, the good times of a dark blue mobo, light-blue PCIe lanes, white PCI, orange stat ports, green GPUs, grey network adapters, and the rainbow carnival of the unsleeved PSU..

Any z97 board with SLI, from a brand that you have heard of, is a good board. They'll all perform the same, unless you want some very specific features.
