Microphone not working anymore

I have a friend of mine that is having some weird issue with his microphone.

It's working on another laptop, so the problem is software-side.

 

He has the microphone connected as usual, and this is his list of devices.

The weird thing that I noticed is that he has no empty/colored bars on the side, like this:

Does anybody know how to fix this?
