Newbie Here, Need Help on what Motherboard to Buy

You don't need to spend that much on a motherboard, especially if its only a 3570k. I recommend either a Gigabyte Z77 UDH3 or a AsRock Z77 Extreme-4, either will be great for overclocking. Pretty sure they are both around the 150$ mark.

I'd say Asus Maximus V Formula would be the one to go for.

The formula is an Eatx motherboard and there aren't many cases smaller than a full tower that would support it. Also its $100 more and its basically throwing away money if u don't use the extra pcie slots. It functions the same as the gene in every other way

My recommendation is the MSi z77 Bigbang mPower. Overclock certified boards from msi. Linus made a video about it, and I made my purchase upon his recommendation. Got if from NCIX on a deal during Boxing day. 180$ for an OC certified board is not bad.

Main Gaming Rig/Folding Machine: Core i7 3770k @ 4.7GHz / H100 with Sickleflow Fans/ Corsair 600t / XFX 6950 / 16GB DDR3

Folding/Media PC: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE/ Fractal Design Core 1000 / 4GB DDR2

Ultrabook : Samsung NP530 Ultrabook.

i recently bought a 3570k and an MSI board with it which cost £50, but the bios was outdated i think and it was incompatible. So i sent it back and bought an Asus p8 Z77-v Lx2 and it works a charm, great board, and was only £30 more so about $120 give or take. Haven't tried overclocking myself yet but from what I've read online it works pretty well for the price.

I also recommend the MSI MPower Big Bang because each one is hand tested at 4.6 ghz at factory for 24 hours on prime95. So that means you have a very low chance of getting a defective board.
