Hi everyone,

I am a student who commutes home every other weekend and brings his desktop with him back and forth. The issue is that every time I completely unplug the power to my desktop during commute, my second GPU is no longer recognized by the motherboard after I plug the desktop back in and restart.

My current fix is by exchanging the two GPUs (meaning the first slotted GPU goes in the second and vice-versa), POST the computer, and boot into Windows - which works - but is extremely tedious to fix, especially when I plan to water cool my GPUs in the near future. I'm not sure if my monitor setup is related to the issue (4 monitors while at school, 1 while at home), but I've included those details anyways.

Build Details:

   OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

System Specs: http://goo.gl/L6okb4 (in short: dual EVGA 780ti Classified ACX (currently not in SLI), ASUS Maximus VII Formula, i7-4790k, AX1200i PSU, all in stock settings)

BIOS: updated to Version 2304 (newest)

   GPU Drivers: 347.52 (newest)

Monitor Setup:

   Monitor 1, 2, 3: VIZIO 32" M322-B1; Monitor 4: LG 27UM65-P

At school: Monitor 1, 2, 3 from HDMI to DVI-D, DVI-I, and HDMI port; Monitor 4 from HDMI to DP port

At home: Monitor 4 from HDMI to DP port

Any other possible fixes and questions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Supposing you have the sli or crossfire bridge in mabye some sort of damage happened during transport

I make sure to remove the SLI bridge during transport, and since they're not in SLI config, that shouldn't be an issue. All components are solid, other than fans and CPU water pump.

that's an overkill psu like mine's lol, anyway then why don't you just 1 card? You're not doing sli right? use 1 at home and the other at school? It's a dumb suggestion(i know) but if you don't need 2 then why bother

I do plan to put it in SLI after I begin water cooling it (around summertime), but due to this problem, I can't consider doing so. But yes, overkill PSUs ftw!  ^_^ good for upgradability

@shawnjzlee try checking the memory population rules in your MoBo's manual you might have the wrong config :) Hopefully that's the problem

and overkill PSU's sort of become ineffecient(from what i heard)  so it's better to have just the right amount.

Oooo...I will take a look at that soon. Many thanks for the suggestion  never considered that.

pretty sure it depends on the PSU's 80 PLUS certification, since it will draw in what it needs within that certification's efficiency percentage, but  lol
