Refurbished Build Plan

So, i was searching for some refurbished hardware to see if i could come across any bargains and i came across a site that specializes in refurbished hardware and workstations that have been taken from office belonging to designer office or bankrupt companies. I'm currently using a MacBook Pro which is fine but the reason i want to change will be mentioned later.

So i found this workstation: http://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/hp-z600-configure/

Now, for £366.99 (inc Tax) i can configure it to a Xeon E5640, 8GB's RAM (+£15 to upgrade to 12GB) and 750GB storage. I have no clue when it comes to Xeon's and what's good and what's not; how would that build stack up against a 2.3GHz I5 macbook pro? I'm not planning to do any gaming on it, only general office uses (MS Office, coding, internet steaming/browsing etc.) You get the idea... The reason for wanting to be rid of the MacBook is simply because i don't see any reason for having a Mac...

Would it be worth it to get rid of my MacBook Pro, purchase this and have £150 left over? Another option i considered is to purchase the above computer but get rid of my Xbox One and maybe put a R9 280x or something other in there along with the Xeon? Would there be bottlenecks? How would that stack up against AAA titles? I also have a Samsung 840 EVO i could use but not sure if the workstation would make full use of it...

Any help and advice is appreciated. Thanks!

These are pretty antique systems. Not even Sata III which is a problem. I think that they're fairly overpriced for what you get. And, depending on the luck of the draw, you could get something that was hammered on for years. Caveat Emptor!

Have you tried to assemble a system for around that budget and seen what's available? A little more will probably get you a lot more. Especially since you already have an sdd that you can throw into the mix.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

Yeah, i mean the reason i was thinking about this was the fact i would have a little money left over from the budget... If i threw every penny i could into building a system i would probably be looking at an I5 4590 and a R9 290x if i really did push my budget.
