So I recently watched a LTT video and saw the new sponsor Tunnelbear. I have a decent understanding of how a VPN works, but are they able to stop an ISP from seeing ones traffic? Is that something that Tunnelbear claims to be able to do?

Yeah, actually I was really interested by this sponsor.

 

It's insanely cheap, they claim to have massive subscribers; can anyone attest to how good this is?  I mean for $30 / year I'd use it for some things.

Not terribly sure if they can stop the ISP from seeing your traffic, unless it encrypts the data going between their servers and your home network.

It should stop your ISP from seeing what type of traffic it is, but not from them seeing your traffic outright.

 

My ISP throttles P2P traffic, but if I turn on a VPN, P2P traffic speeds right up.

for example, do you mean the ISP could see that there simply is traffic and not specifically a url or site details?

Yes. That's why VPNs unblock websites (I think). They encrypt the traffic so they can't see what you're actually visiting.
