Overheating issues with HD6970

So I replaced the Thermal paste on the gpu earlier , because the card was reaching 85 degrees under load and Idled at about 67 degrees, not after replacing the paste its idling at 84  degrees and went up to 102 degrees when I ran 3DMark.

 

My question is ; is this caused by too much paste ,or not enough? Also do you have any other tips to bring the temps down , because I don't think 85 under load is great anyway.

You should post the rest of your computer specs, like the case, fan(s)? Would you say the room this computer is in is cool?

I have an Antec 300 with;

2 front 120mm intake fans(Sharkoon Silent eagle 1000),

One side (120mm ) intake,

Stock Antec 140mm top exhaust,

Stock antec 120mm rear exhaust.

The card uses the stock cooler.

CPU: FX8320 (With Arctic cooling freezer 13 pro)

and a Corsair CX600 power supply. 

My motherboard is the Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0

Cables are well managed , and the airflow in the case is good.

Room is warm only because of the computer, rest of the house is cooler.

Ok, so I reapplied the thermal paste, and I've gained a small temperature drop...now idling at 70-71 and peaking at 93 when running 3dMark, but this is still too high...anyone got any other ideas? Thanks

I'm sure you've done this already, but it can't hurt to mention it. Did you clean the dust out of the heatsink? If you haven't done so for the years that you owned the card, it may be negatively affecting your heatsinks ability to dissipate heat.

I did, it's clean....looks like I'm gonna have to get a new card, I'll use this until it burns out, (It might not I guess) but I'm not happy with it being so hot anyway
