why couldnt it have been 2000x1000, and 4000x2000, and just 4x ing it up like that?

Probably to maintain a 16:9 aspect ratio as opposed to 2:1

Why didnt they preserve the 4:3 resolutions then? Oh they did, in regards to resolution height, for a while at least... reason why 768p was a thing for so long, and now thats forgotten too.

 

Theres been so many different aspect ratios before 16:9... yet 16:9 is somehow special? the perfect one? bullshit... all i see over the internet is people screaming for 16:10 or narrower and others wanting 21:9... 

 

if anything there should have been two standards, not one.

Cuz currently, if you take a closer look *wikipedia is your friend*, there is NO standard resolution, aspect ratio or even framerate, its all bullshit.

Might as well went with 4000x2000 or something for the future.

Well that just means there is no demand for 4:3 monitor nowadays. Monitor makers don't want to take the risk of making products that people may not buy, this is probably why we have so few models with 21:9 or 16:10 compared to 16:9. Which is sad...
