hey everyone

So I'm new to upgrading my hardware but I though it was about time I give it ago as I like to get as much from my pc as I can. I make games for a living and sometimes have to render out animations and videos via 3d software packages (im not sure if this info helps but what ever :D ).

I am currently running

GPU: Geforce GTX660 Ti

CPU: Intel Core i53570K CPU @ 3.40GHz

Memory: 16GB RAM (not sure which)

Windows 8.1

Power plant 850w (I think)

mother bored Asus P8Z77-v X2

500g Hard drive not sure which I think WD

with as many screens as I can possibly get to work on it (only two for now would like more though)

oh and i have £100 - £300 ish to spend what should I get ???

oh and I would like to stick with NVIDIA as I have a shield that I use

Personally, I'll upgrade your GPU to a 970 and maybe get an aftermarket cooler like a 212 EVO so you can overclock it since I think you need that power in rendering and your other components are already good(maybe change the PSU to a VSM or CSM). Other upgrades might be an SSD(128GB or 256GB depending on your programs).

Pretty much this.

1 - Grab a gtx 970. Suggestion: MSI Gaming 4g (279£). You could also get the Gigabyte G1 Gaming for 289£. I don't think that those 10£ are worth it, but I bet my entire wallet that most people will disagree with me and come with the "get the g1!" fanboyism. Both are excellent choices, though, it comes down to preference.

2 - If you'd like, get the hyper 212 CPU cooler, and OC the crap out of your i5.

Hello unreal47 and welcome to Linus Tech Tips forum :)

As the guys suggested, it would be good to upgrade your GPU and overclock your CPU to get more performance for it (you would need a custom CPU Cooler for that).

I would suggest also looking at some SSDs to put your OS and most used programs and files on as it would decrease all loading times significantly and make your system much more responsive.

Optimizing your storage would also result in improvement of your system's performance. I would clean all unnecessary files from the drives, perform defragmentation and run a diagnostic utility on them to check their health and status. A good tool to do that is WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=znyjEf

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
