My router is upstairs and in my living room the signal drops from 50 to around 5.

What are the options to improve my range?

So would the extender boost my internet back up to full speeds from the around 5 I have in my living room?

Probably not full speed but should be a lot faster than 5. Maybe 10 - 20 instead of 5Mbps
