Need help with first build! :)

1. Budget & Location
My budget is around RM2500 - 3000 (USD$700 - 830 at time of posting) and I am looking to buy the parts in Malaysia. However, the computer will be used in Australia.

2. Aim

This system will mostly be used for 1080p gaming with not so occasional video editing and engineering CAD work.

3. Monitors
ONE 1080p monitor, possibly a maximum of TWO 1080p monitors in the future. Not so sure about 4K resolution yet, but the room for that in the future would be great.

4. Peripherals
I will purchase peripherals outside of the budget.

5. Why are you upgrading?
My Dell laptop is really poor in all the above aims and I recently cracked my screen (way out of warranty period), thus making it an underpowered desktop.

I have already done some research and gathered up some parts that looked really appealing. I wish to get some comments (i.e, excessive, overkill, not good enough, could do better) on them and perhaps cheaper alternatives for some of them. I already own a 750Gb SSD, so I do not need any more storage for the build.

Additionally, I recently read about the GTX970's problem with the VRAM? Anyone can comment on this if it will be a massive problem or will a R9 290X be a better solution?

Motherboard : MSI H97 Gaming 3

RAM : Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB 1600MHz

SSD : Samsung 840 EVO 750Gb (I purchased this a few months back when it was selling for only ~USD$230)

GPU : MSI GeForce GTX970

PSU : Seasonic S12G 550W

Case : UNDECIDED (Budgeted around USD$50+) (Any suggestions?)
