DisplayPort not working

I have just brought a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable so that my monitor will run at 144 hertz rather that 120 hertz when running on HDMI. When I plugged in my Cable into my GPU (XFX R9 208X) and into my monitor (AOC G2460PQU) it wouldn't show what was on screen. can someone please help.

Not sure if this can help you but, I have a pg278q(ROG Swift) and i had an amd card before i switched to a nvidia card and my card only had mini display port input. I had a mini displayport to display port cable arround, i tried it, it never worked. I went to a store and bought a mini display port to display port that was certified as "1.2" and it worked. My guess would be to make sure to buy a display port "1.2" cable.
