Hi guys, sorry for the newbie question. I'm putting together my first PC at the weekend and noticed that the motherboard has a 12v 2x4 for the CPU power. My PSU has a 2x4 and a solid 8 connector for the CPU, would I have to use the 2x4 split or do both do the same job?

I only ask as I've routed the 8pin connector already but it's an effort to get it through past the fans and if I must use the other one then I'd be able to reroute the cables before I fix in the motherboard.

Thanks for your help.

jep they are the same. But you shouldnt stick the 6+2pin pcie in there, that could fry your cpu. (not sure if it even fits... ^^)

Thanks guys, I didn't know if the Haswell chip had a different requirement but I guess it would draw as much (or little) power as it needs from the 8 pin.

I wouldn't dream of sticking the PCIE connector in there, I triple checked I had the right cable as I was so paranoid about doing that! Thankfully they were clearly labelled.

It doesn't fit but I've heard stories of people jamming it in there anyway.

those people deserve a dead cpu if they do this! :P
