I have a 1TB external hard drive, and it has stopped working recently.  I don't mind having to format it and losing the data, but I can't even do that.  Whether I plug it into a windows or mac, it now isn't being recognized.  earlier today I was able to go into diskmngmt.msc and see it, but i couldn't do anything with it.  The light on the drive is turning on, and sometimes my pc makes a sound when I connect it, but I can't get it recognized.  It's a seagate 1tb drive, thats all i know

Thanks

I can help with programming and hardware.

Can you feel the drive spin up when you plug it in?

I would assume either the drive or the caddy is dead... Might even be the cord.
