boot drive change, how to?

Hi LTT forum, as I'm sure you all know, windows 10 is coming out soon, and with that, I thought I would be the perfect time to upgrade to an ssd. So... here's my dilemma, what would happen if I installed the sdd and installed windows 10 on it, but my HDD still has windows 7 on it? Also, how would I go about uninstalling windows 7 off my HDD and use it just for storage.

 

Any help would be much appreciated, and i look forward to your comments.

To install Win10 to the SSD you just unplug the HDD (for good measure), run through the standard install process, and then reconnect the HDD. If you want to "uninstall" Windows 7 from the HDD just delete the Windows folder and any other Windows-related things you don't need (like the Program Files and Users folder).

its fine, unplug your HDD during Win10 install however or it will screw up (itll place system reserved files on the hdd, which is not what we want)

 

removing win7 without destroying your data is a pain, you have to run it through takecontrol to let you delete the system files...but some will never delete. the only way to totally remove win7 from that drive is to format.

Which is basically what I did when I got an SSD for my laptop. However I had almost nothing personal on it.

Yeah...unfortunately for me when I got my SSD i couldn't format, I had all of my data on the drive. There's still 3 year old fragments of windows install lol. Only a couple megs so I don't really care.

Thanks to you all! To reply to a few of you, I've got a usb full of important data (family photos, personal stuff) so I can re-format the Hdd if needed, it would've happened anyway if I didn't get an ssd.

How can i format it when the time comes, cause I know you can do a refresh but does that get rid of the ssd data?
