I feel like I post more in this forum than anywhere else haha so sorry if it seems like I'm just needy. Again, as a beginner, I'm just trying to learn how to troubleshoot and get other opinions.

I recently got an FX-6300, which I've heard is very overclockable, along with a Hyper 212 Plus, which I've heard great things about. At stock clocks, I've been able to reach down to 14C on idle (which is amazing to me!), and about 54C at load, but have reached up to 60C after 30 minutes of 3D rendering. My guess is things are installed correctly with these kinds of temperatures going on, they seem pretty decent unless they should be even lower.

I've never overclocked before, and I didn't want to do anything too ridiculous as far as ramping things up goes, so I used the settings from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9uXysmgPi8 or if you don't care to watch it, it was overclocked the 4.3 GHz with a 21.5 CPU Ratio, Turbo Core Disabled, Spread Spectrum Disabled, 1.4V on CPU, and 1.23ish on CPU/NB. Core C6 mode was also disabled. So I save the settings and my BIOS is telling me that my idle temp is 50C (usually in the bios, it tells me I'm getting around 26C-30C). So, just trying to see another source, I booted and opened up HWMonitor, and, at idle, it was reading my temperature at an unchanging 80C! Holy crap!

I have tried also just changing the multiplier and not the voltages, but those have still considerably increased idle temperatures; I don't think they've been as bad as 80C though. So many things could be causing these this (to me at least), so any ideas as to what the issue is?

Specs of main importance are:

AMD Vishera FX-6300 3.5 GHz Black Edition Processor

MSI 970 GAMING Motherboard

EVGA 850 B2 Power Supply

What is the socket temp when your chip is showing 80°C

Reset your clock to stock and see what happens to your temps. You may just be unlucky and have a chip with dodgy sensors.

Those settings seem reasonable for that chip. What sort of ambient temps are you dealing with?

I just tried 4.3 GHz without manually setting the voltage (board set it for me), and my load temp has increased slightly, but not extremely. It's actually a lot better now that I let the board adjust the voltage itself. I'm getting higher idle temps (33Cish) and slightly higher load temps (56ish).

I'm not sure about the socket temp. My stock clocks were back to normal (19C usually at lowest idle point, then up to 54C at 3D rendering load). I'm not sure exactly, I think our thermostat says something like 77F but the cooling doesn't transfer well in the house haha it's a bit warmer upstairs.

well its not possible for the CPU to run colder than ambient on air. so the sensor is defiantly wrong. If you use something likxe HWinfo64 and run sensors only. You will get a whole bunch of sensors. Under the CPU block there will be a chipset block. This will list CPU socket temp.

For example Its about 40°C (104°F) here at the moment

My FX 8350 is reporting:
~14°C (~57°F) Idle

Chipset is reporting CPU as:

~47°C (~116°F)

As I know that the ambient is way above 14°C then it is not possible for my CPU to be running at that temperature on air. Since even before its on it will be roughly the room temp. So If you add a couple of degrees for good measure and use that as a temp its likely going to be more accurate.
