NOOB iso router help

I dont know much about routers. I think I have DSL. My router takes a phone line is about all I know.

 

I was hoping I could replace it with something nice, noob friendly, and get the most out of what internet I have. Im not sure if a better router will even give me any more speed but was hoping for the best.

 

Are these routers replaceable? If so what should I be looking for?

 

My ISP sent me a Smart RG and it only lasts about a year before dying. I call it dying... it just gets really hot and will randomly drop internet every 5 mins to a few hours. Restet and repeat. They send me a new ones (3 total) but I am always wondering when it will die again. Also, this router rarely accepts my user name or password. I have to do a full reset of router to add/change password for wireless. Even if I change Admin/Admin to my own it wont accept it
