Newly purchased AMD gpu is not detected.

Mastergp

I need help diagnosing why my Radeon HD 7770 is not being detected.

my rig:

AMD FX-4130 3.8GHz quad-Core

MSI 970A - G46 ATX AM3+

G-Skill ripjaws 8GB ram

Sapphire Raddeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB

Silverstone Strider Essential 500w

Installed the GPU into its socket, then booted up the PC, and unistalled/disabled the old vga.

After that i dowloaded and installed the latest drivers for the new gpu.

the thing is the old vga kept re-installing itself.

if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

PS. This is the first PC that i've ever built myself, so i am noob. =(

Is the GPU connected to the PSU ? [6pin PCI-E]

Have you tried CCleaner to wipe the VGA drivers before reinstalling the AMD ones? [uninstall all VGA / GPU drivers, CClean in Safe mode, an reinstall the AMD drivers, see if that fixes you problem.]

What does your Hardware Manager say? Does it detect the GPU at all? Might be dead aswell.

Yes the gpu is connected to the psu via 6pin PCI-E.

I will try that CCleaner.

In device manager it shows "Standard VGA graphics adapter" in the display adapters menu.

if the driver thingy doesn't work, you might want to RMA the card :/

Not guaranteed that it is broken. But sounds like a dead GPU to me. If the fan is spinning, it means the fan is getting power. Might be an issue with the GPU core, the memory or what ever. But try the driver clean and so on.

Ah, have you perhaps disabled the PCI-E lane you are using it in in the BIOS? Maybe check for that, Also a BIOS update might help.

There is no option for PCI-E in the UEFI, besides a PCI Latency Timer.

Looks like might i have to just RMA it.

Yes, but none worked.

Bios update was one of the many things i did after booting up the PC.

After restarting my PC a few times and installing a third party software, somehow the system FINALLY recognizes the Radeon HD 7770...
