Hello! As you may know my Seagate 500GB External Harddrive went bonkers making files corrupt and almost unreadable, it runs loud, hot, and it bloats from the inside(like a worn out phone battery)

Link to my Seagate 500GB is here: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-External-ST905004EXA101-RK/dp/B001UHWHO4/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_1

I recently closed a topic of my problems for my external, no viruses no nothing. It wont safely eject, and the disk kept running even though i stopped using it. Concluded as broken. I cant RMA it either because it came with my Jailbreaked PS3 as a pack, its over 3 years.

So now im looking for a new alternative, mostly.. under 50 bucks? is it possible? I mean to store Backed Up Games, Movies, and Study files as recently my Junior High School years has became College-like homeworks (im talking about 30 paged science research journals about fish).

  • Size: 100GB - 500GB
  • Price: Under USD 50, maybe a little bit higher
  • Brand: Any, I suppose those you trust, e.g: SeaGate, WD.

Suggestions appreciated. Thanks

EDIT: ALSO NEEDS TO BE SLIM, LIGHT, AND RUNS SILENT. DONT FORGET COOL <---OPTIONAL

I'd go for a portable SSD or such if possible, that way its fast and won't be damaged by dropping it or anything like that.

Maybe get a large thumbdrive?

Woah no way for a thumbdrive, how does a portable SSD work exactly?

Same way as a portable hard drive, except it will produce no sound, not a large amount of heat, and should use significantly less power.

You could get a usb 2.5" SATA hdd enclosure and an SSD and put the SSD in there, or a 2.5" HDD.

You sure you don't want a flash drive? some decent quality ones are still better than an external HDD.

You didn't know? My house is hungry for flashdrives, i kept storing them in a case under my monitor (one of those Jailbreak USB cases i had when i still boot on with Jailbreak USB on my ps3) next morning: POOF! No more 50GB Expensive Flash Drive. The same thing happened to my dads 8GB one, running a whoppa lotta financial and important files. He dug everywhere. Good thing is i backed it up. But i'll reconsider, besides bringing a large External to school really intimidate my classmates, and impresses the girl. Wow you have a Big D(Big Drive ;) )

You could put it on a lanyard.

or bolt it into the computer that you plug it into. /s
