Hey guys I guess this should be in this topic correct me if I'm wrong.

I have just installed yosemite on a second pc just out of interest and because I could, though I did it mainly to play around with Xcode, the problem is I used to have windows 8.1 on it with a second hdd for all my files (os is on ssd), but the mac can't read it and gives me a message about it everytime I boot up.

I would like to be able to use this drive within mac os x as it contains many documents I need.

thanks in advance

I am assuming its an NTFS format, so you can either download a program called Tuxera (i think) and that allows the Mac to read NTFS based HDD.

Or you can easily format the HDD to something like exFAT or Fat32

What format is the 2nd hdd?

I thought ntfs so I downloaded osxfuse, ntfs 3g and fuse wait. But that didn't solve the problem (probably should have mentioned it earlier), and I cannot find the format in disk utility, or I am just not looking good enough

The problem is I don't want to format it because it contains some important files

Did you reboot the machine after you installed those programs?

Yes I did, gave me the same message.

EDIT:

-snip-

Well first, you'll probably have to figure out if your HDD is NTFS based format. And if it is, I highly recommend you try out Tuxera, it works flawlessly for my Hackintosh build.

or you can install Tuxera first, and see if it works, and if it doesn't, we'll continue on from there.
