Hello, I'm relatively new to this forum (Not sure if I'm even posting this in the right sub-section. So Apologies in advance.) I built my rig around 8 - 9 months ago.

I'm finding that I want to change a few things:

  1. Case
  2. Motherboard
  3. Ram [Adding another 8gb]
  4. Cooling
  5. Graphics card
  6. Storage

Well lets start with why I want to upgrade my current rig. What I'm looking for is future prospects such as SLI, Crossfire [Depending on the card I have at that given time.], more cooling etc. The Rig itself is mostly used for Gaming and soon to be used for video editing for a project I have in mind to do with Youtube. Upgrading due to the worry that my rig isnt going to be powerful enough for doing the things that I want to do. I will list below what my rig specs are.

  • Case: Cooler Master HAF 912
  • CPU: i5-4670k - Stock clock
  • Ram: 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866MHZ
  • Motherboard: Asus Z87-K
  • Cooling: Corsair H60
  • Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 7970 GHZ Edition
  • Storage 1: Sandisk 128GB Ultra II
  • Storage 2: Seagate 2TB Baracuda

So far I have a few things in mind, I would like to Add more storage to the computer for Video files and Games. My idea for this is maybe 2x 2tb Seagate Barracuda Drives. One purely dedicated to Video Files and the other Purely dedicated to game installs. I'm not sure if this is Overkill or if I'm heading along the right lines of things. I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card to the GTX 970 aswell. But I would like to get some advice before I set out to buy these upgrades.

Thanks for any Advice / Tips.

you don't have to upgrade your motherboard i think. the motherboard does not increase performance. If you want the better sound of the other mobo you can ad a sound card. you can alsow buy a NZXT S340. it has a lower price and fits all the hardware you need. maybe you can alsow get 2 3TB drives to go in RAID so one drive can fail.
