Recommend Free Web Design Lesssons

I'm interested in picking up web design, so I have a little programming experience in python, and want to create interactive and awesome looking websites. Would someone recommend some good free lessons? Also are there any software recommendations? I'm trying brackets.io but I'm undecided as it keeps closing tags in the wrong places and seems to work against me.

Sites like Treehouse and lynda.com aren't free but you can get free trials. You can probably cover a fair bit in the time they give you if you're dedicated. You can check out other sites like Code Academy, Udemy, Code School to see if they have what you want for free or if they have free trials.

There are a few other online resources mentioned in our forums thread here.

If you're a student you can get Jetbrain's IDE's for free. Check out Webstorm. If you want to get into Ruby, Php, or Python web development there are other IDE's for those (contains everything Webstorm does plus the additional language support mentioned). There's also other options like Adobe Edge Code, Sublime Text 2, and Notepad++ that you can check out.

I've used Notepad++ but want something with features more geared towards web design. And sublime text doesn't appear to be free

It is free. You just get a message saying to buy it sometimes. It's a bit like what happens on winrar. You don't need to buy it!!
