i5-4690k Overclock Problem

Go to solution Solved by ProKoN,

run a test like xtu stress test or cinebench

this will load your chip up to 100%

when its loaded up to 100% look at cpuz to verify its at 44x

the multiplier shown in your SS is 42x however the cpu is in an idle state

Hey guys, I saw Linus' video about the "Ultimate Value Build". I have the same motherboard, but when I overclocked according to Linus instruction in that video, I have an issue.

When I'm in Advanced mode (F7), I click the option to put XMP, then go to "Sync All Cores" and select that and put the Core Ratio on 44 or 42. It shows no errors or anything, I save and exit. when I boot back into Windows, I went to check the overclock worked on Speccy and CPU-Z and they still say that my i5-4690k is at 3.5GHz. When I went back into the UEFI Bios, it said it was on 44. Did it work or not? Bios says one thing and software says another. How can I check?

Thanks,

Sir Doge

Speccy will always just show the rated speed the cpu was designed for. (Notice cpu-z only shows you running at 800Mhz) To verify that your cpu is running at the speed you set in the BIOS you have to stress it. Run a stress tester or a game in windowed mode and alt/tab back to cpu-z.

Woah, are you sure it's set to 44/42?

http://i.gyazo.com/4d74a2976c090ef618e7f5a8f932c5ae.png

because that tells me that the multiplier is at a solid 8.

forgot that cpus idle, lol

Anyway, the default clock speed is going to be shown on speccy and cpu-z, but cpu-z will also show the actual clock speed.

Woo!

Your multiplier set to 42 thies means your CPU is boosting to 4.2 hz if under load.

Thanks guys, after reading all the answers and stress testing it, I can see that my CPu is indeed at 4.4GHz now (was at 4.2 but tried 4.4 and it worked). Thanks, everyone!
