I am setting up a caching box for an event to lighten internet traffic. It will cache the relevant steam/origin/uplay library as it turns out, windows server cannot handle the though put of the network and throttles the download from the cache in a horrible way. What are some alternatives to windows server that can handle a 100MB/s form a cache?

Linux, lol? tbh is sounds like a hard drive IO bottleneck.

You can build a pFsense router and run squid on it. I would really recommend a Haswell i3 if your doing anything with a VPN do to the AES instruction set otherwise a Haswell Pentium should be fine.

Linux+Squid+(14*(the amount of data you want to cache in mega bytes)=the amount of ram you need in that server) and you also need to keep about 1 gig of ram free for the OS
