Im overclocking my friends CPU on a 970A-G46 and once we go over 50c it throttles down to like 1.5ghz from 4.3.

Any ideas?

Was it underload at the time? Was there any performance issues when it clocked down?

Cinebench, yes it slowed down. once we closed cinebench it was fine and went back upto 4.3.

No idea, maybe increase the voltage slowly? Doesn't seem like the overclock is stable. Also what cooler is your friend using?

Your VRMs are overheating.  You need to place a fan directly over the VRMs.

Overclocking with AMD requires a high end motherboard because these are very power hungry CPUs.

With the amount of money you spent, and are about to spend, you could have gone Intel.

Really nice budget solution, eh?

Sorry.. this is a lot of misplaced aggression, not necessarily towards you, but towards people who recommend AMD processors who don't realize it ends up costing the same as Intel because of proper motherboard, cooling, and energy costs.

His VRMs are overheating*

He needs a Gigabyte 970A UD3P motherboard which costs about $75.

Or, try and sell it all of now and buy an i5.
