hello everyone!

this is my first post in this linus community. I got some questions. Is it possible to add a full size GPU inside a laptop?

i have checked some videos on YouTube. From them this one:

seemed to be quite legit. I was a hardcore gamer back in my country but when i came to UK for my higher studies all i can bring is my lappy which is not really that good. HP 242 G1 powered up with i3 3110M, 8 gigs of ram (was 2 Gigs when i bought this crap machine) and intel HD4000 GPU.

i want to play games in my lappy but my GPU is holding me down, side by side i do not earn much so i cannot buy a proper gig or a console. so i keep on searching for something cheaper as far as i can see this is the cheapest way i can play my favourite games.

So i was planning to buy a PSU (300w max), Coolermaster 110 Elite case, a GPU maybe R5 or R9 and that converter from banggood.com (check the video link i gave above, that guy was using that converter to use a full size GPU in his lappy).

I got some questions:

1. Is it possible to use my Laptop's monitor when i use this setup? because i do not want to buy a monitor as it will be costly and also i dont have much space to put the monitor in my room (trust me you dont wanna see where i live)

2. also will it give me the full performance of the GPU?

3. GPU compatibility, is it R9 compatible?

well thats all for now.

Thanks everyone :)

1. I think it's possible to use your laptop's monitor.

2. Yes, you will get 100% performance. But I think your CPU could be a possible bottleneck.

3. Anything is compatible. I think.

I'm not an expert though, and I could be very wrong. Take it with a grain of salt.

My build: tis be ordered

But how do i actually use my laptop's monitor? the mini PCIe adapter goes inside my laptop and the GPU sits on the PCIE slot of THAT thing. but how will i transfer the end product (idk what it is called) from GPU to my laptop monitor? using a VGA cable? putting one inside my gpu and another in my lappy?

Hmmmm you are right CPU could become a possible bottleneck.

I hope so as the site ( http://www.banggood.com/EXP-GDC-Laptop-External-PCI-E-Graphics-Card-p-934367.html )suggests HD series but i do not wish to use them :L

And thats all right mate, no worries thanks for all your help. lets see what others have to say about this :)
