So, I'm planning on making a machine with my core 2 quad Q8300 to view 1080p HD content. I have 4GB RAM (4x1GB DDR2 800mhz), the core 2 quad, and a spare 500GB HDD. Here's what I need:

LGA 775 Motherboard for under $70
Low profile GPU that does 1080p video flawlessly
Case
PSU
and a decently priced blu-ray reader.

Anyone willing to help me out? I have an aftermarket cooler for my CPU so it'll stay nice and cool, along with some decent thermal paste.

Cannot break $250.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Eric S. Raymond used an E6600 from 2005 until 12/30/14 or open source software creation. Raw data computations in excess of 18GB each. Core 2 Duos still have tons of life left, my friend.

As least for the motherboard I would check places like eBay.

Should be able to get a 775 board cheap as.

Cases to me are a personal thing. What might be good you may not like.

As long as it has good airflow & dust filters your good to go.

A good 450w supply will be plenty & won't be over stressed.

Pretty much the on board video will do 1080p video.

A video card will take a lot of work off the cpu.

So whatever is left get as good card as you can afford.

Sweet. I got a good selection here, but if you find anything let me know. I'm in the US

Sound good? Total from newegg came to roughly $180

And here's the board

This is pretty good, but I'd change the video card and go with something a bit newer like:

i7 4790k | GTX 970 | 16GB

That's all you need to know. It's a beast.

That'd break the budget, however.

You said your parts were roughly 180$. His budget is 250$.

The 730 is 20-30$ more than the 6450.

So, with the 730 it would be 200-210. Am I missing something?

**EDIT

I realized that you didn't include the mobo in that price. My bad.

The 6450 would be used for mostly light gaming (if any) and 1080p playback. I think it's more than sufficient.

I'm annoyed there aren't any decent LGA 775 boards on newegg. I know they're out of date but they still have so much potential >3<.

Thank you. If you know of any better case+PSU combos or anything like that let me know.

I know! I'm still rocking a Core2duo e7500 and it's still performs very well.
