Hello

I have found a great deal on a ram set on amazon USA. I live in Canada. If I pay the price from amazon USA of 72$ will I need to pay more when the product arrive?

Thank you

Hi, welcome to the forums.

First off, MOST products on Amazon USA cannot be shipped to Canada, regardless of if that same product is available on Amazon Canada or not. You should first check that the product can even be shipped to your location. To do this, sign into your Amazon Account, add it to your cart, and attempt to "check out". It will inform you whether it can be shipped to your address or not.

So, with that out of the way, assuming it can be shipped to your address, the short answer is MAYBE. Odds are, yes. Canada Post will probably charge you the local sales tax rate (13% HST in Ontario, so whatever your HST or PST+GST rate is in your province).

It depends on what shipping company they use also. If they use Purolator, UPS, Fedex, or any other "courier" service (Such as DHL), then there will likely be additional "duty" charges added on top (This is essentially a "brokerage" fee that the courier companies charge for clearing it past customs. Canada Post does this for free).

If they ship using USPS (United States Postal Service), then it will be handed over to Canada Post, so the same rules for CP apply to USPS.

Often on Amazon, they use UPS. If it's from Amazon Market Place, they may not even state which courier/service they use.

If you live near the US border like 90 percent of Canada, you can use one of those package shipping services in border towns in the US, you essentially give amazon their address, then go there and pay them 5 bux, and they give you your package

UPS Stores have this feature where you can rent an American Address from them, but I'm not sure if they would forward the mail to you or if you need to pick it up.

FYI 90% of Canada does NOT live in Border Towns. While the average person in, say, Urban Ontario could DRIVE to the border, it would still be a 2+ hour drive for most of them. In Ontario, you've got Windsor, Sarnia, and Niagara Falls for the three big border crossings.

In the US towns near BC, there are mom and pop shops which give an american adress to foward packages to, then you drive across the border and give them 5 bucks and get your packages.

I have never had a product on amazon.com that would not ship to me in Canada.

That's great for you. However, it still remains a fact that many items on Amazon.com will not ship to Canada. There are obviously exceptions to this, as I did not say "all". I was simply warning the OP that he should check to make sure the item would actually ship to Canada.

Assuming it does, then yes, he will most likely incur additional charges when it gets here (Most likely taxes, possibly brokerage fees).
