Hi, sorry if there is a thread already similar to this, please tell me :)

---------------------

Built my first pc this week, and I made a bootable USB with Windows 10 (been using a Mac for the most of my life, somewhat familiar with XP, but not Vista/7/8/8.1)

So, I can boot from the USB and install the OS into my ssd, but when I shut down the computer and remove the USB, I get an error message when I try to boot. However, I can still use Windows from the ssd if I turned on the computer before removing the USB.

USB + ssd  -> boot = ok

USB + ssd -> boot -> remove usb = ok

ssd -> no boot

Yes, I did change the order of the Boot priority in the BIOS. Essentially, I have to boot with my USB attached, and can't boot directly from the ssd.

System in signature. I know this could just be an issue with Windows 10, but isn't Windows 10 essentially a carbon copy of Windows 8.1 + some additional features? I also sort of don't want to get Windows 8 when Windows 10 is coming out in 2015.

Help?

How do I make sure that every component of WIndows is installed properly? O.o

Windows still work after pulling out the USB, but I just can't boot onto the ssd itself without the USB being plugged in.

I used Rufus to create the drive. I also used a couple other ones: UnetBootin doesn't boot properly, Windows 7 CD/USB software doesn't work for me.

I meant that sometimes, Windows Installation puts the boot manager on another drive. I do not know what causes that, but i usually unplug every drive that won't be my boot and system partition during install. (I was able to install W10 using a FAT32 USB 2.0 drive and an UEFI BIOS, but I used a Mac to create transfer the ISO onto the drive  :ph34r: ).

hmm, I'll look into that. If all else fails, I guess I do a clean reinstall
