No. Your speeds will be affected based on how you connect it. Also, Nvidia cards tend to work best with eGPU setups. Just saying

k I'll be using thunderbolt 2 most likely; should be good considering it's faster than PCIe 3.0

Thats an iffy area. Some people have been able to run it solely off the Akitio's power supply, while others needed to use a powered GPU riser. I would try it without the powered riser=external PSU. You should be fine.

also why not ViDock?

ViDock is crap. The conversion goes PCIe to a PCI thunderbolt converter, which MASSIVELY reduces the speeds to 5ghz Also ViDock is really looked down upon in the eGPU community. The Akitio Thunder 2 is the only way to get full thunderbolt speeds
