Which 970 to get?

Go to solution Solved by Jade,

I am a Asus Fan, but I started to like MSI. I always have a hard time choosing.

The reason isn't because of Asus alone. The Strix has a backplate, doesn't turn on its fan until it gets relatively hot, looks good, and is fairly decent as far as quality goes.

I am not sure which one I want to get. A Backplate would be nice and I do care a lot about silence.

You're around so much, I'm surprised you even asked. This has been asked a shitton in the past.

Asus 970 Strix.

However none of the cards are particularly loud at idle, and under actual load the Strix will have it's fans spinning.

Indeed, however he's probably not always gaming/folding/whatever, so the literal silence of the GPU is a definite bonus, even if they're not loud under load.

When gaming I wear headphones, but when I do school stuff I want it to be as silent as possible.

Right. The GPU's gonna be silent (fans off entirely) unless you're putting load on it; gaming/folding. Even when under load, it won't be too loud anyway.

as @j.dirona said, go with the g1, but that is if you don't care about the power consumption, the g1 needs more power

Honestly, out of the three 970's I have tested (G1, Gaming 4G and Strix) my favourite has to be the G1 Gaming followed by the Strix with the MSI in 3rd.

However, the gaps between them are so minimal, they are all super quiet, they all run super cool so honestly I would just look for the cheapest out of those three, just as I said when I compared them on my channel.
