When I press control everything gets messed up

Whenever I press control on my keyboard wich is fairly new it highlights a desktop icon. Also if I press a or d it scrolls throught them. How do I stop this

The only thing I've found which will select a desktop icon is the space bar.

 

what find of KB is it? any weird function keys that might be causing it to behave differently by default?

It's a sidewinder x4 also when I press it in game it activates something that makes other keys open programs and I know it's not sticky keys because I checked

It  sounds like some macros have been behaving badly..remove all your macro functions  and remap the KB. if , after reseting the KB to a standard model,it still gives you trouble, try it in another system.  

Your best effort is the easiest thing to give to someone else..
