I have the Gigabyte motherboard and graphics card. There's absolutely no need to match manufacturer, so just get whichever combination you wish.

As for the two motherboards, you'll probably not notice much difference, and for the GPU I'd suggest the Gigabyte G1 970.

I use an MSI board but will probably go for the G1 Gigabyte when it comes to upgrading my card, like Tacitus said, you dont need to match board and card.

In terms of the GPU I'd always go for the Gigabyte GTX970. The motherboard... well which ever would fit better in my color scheme, cause there aren't too many differences at all in 1150 boards anyhow in terms of performance all you want to make sure to buy Z97 if you have an unlocked CPU and want to OC.

Intel i7 7820X (delidded) @ 4.9GHz - MSI X299 M7 ACK + EKWB Fullcover Block - G.Skill Trident Z 32GB @ 3466MHz - nVidia Titan Xp + EKWB Fullcover Block @ 2.1GHz - Samsung 960Pro 2x - WDD Blue 2TB - Seasonic 750W Platinum - modded Corsair 600C - Hardtubed Custom Watercooling

its because of the cost msi mb is £107 and msi gpu is £270 gibabyte mb is £92 , gigabyte gpu is £290 so i kinda make my own bundles with them

In that event I'd get the Gigabyte bundle; the GPU stays cooler and is very well built, whereas the motherboard differences are fairly minor.

Msi here, it's the quietest and best all rounder of the 970's as it's usually alot cheaper than the 3 best cards (strix/g1/msi gaming).

If you want the quieter card - msi gaming, cant hear the fans all the way up to 60% and even after that they are sitll really quiet, has the 0% fan idle option.

If you want the better chance at a bigger OC - gigabyte as it's able to consume more power and cools the vrms better. It will also run a few C cooler but is louder.

Though remember it's still lottery, there are people that have the g1's and cant get decent clocks. I say buy w/e you prefer aesthetically out of the two, as they will both be really close in performance/temps though the msi will be quieter.
