So I was wondering when all games will need 4 cores instead of two, like the G3258.

Nobody knows for sure, but they're starting to.

At this point unless you're using the G3258 as a temporary CPU, I would not get it. Get at least an i3 instead, or even an 860K if on a budget.

Desktop: Intel Core i5 2380P (2400 w/o iGPU), MSI H61, 8GB RAM, 256GB SP610, 500GB WD Blue, HIS R9 280, Antec TruePower Classic 550W, Inwin MANA 134, QNIX QX2710, CM QuickFire Rapid, Logitech G402

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L40D, AMD A6-6310, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon R4 Graphics, 14" 1366x768

Phone: iPhone 6 Space Gray 64GB, T-Mobile $60/mo 3GB plan

Games are already starting to need 4 cores.

BF4 runs pretty badly on a G3258 after you get above an R9 270~.

Battlefield is one of the few games that exists that runs poorly on an overclocked  pentium. Games will definitely start needing more cores soon but right now it's not a necessity. Unless the only game you play in battlefield of course.

And other games like FC4, Dragon Age Inquisition, and Advanced Warfare

FC4 and CoD:AW actually DO run on 2 cores, and they run just fine.  The developers added in a check to make sure your processor has 2 or more cores.  There is a work around to this, I think all you do is add a .DLL or something and viola, you can play those games just find on a 2 core processor.  I understand that the devs are trying to push the industry forward by applying the check, but the games still run on 2 core processors.

There are just the first 3 videos when you type in Pentium G3258 + "Game" so there are many examples of people doing this.

By the way, I have personally tested BF4 multiplayer with my i5, but I disabled two cores, effectively turning it into a Pentium, then overclocked it to 4.7Ghz and was able to play online.  Conquest was a little more rough than Team Deathmatch, but certainly playable.

I think the point of the thread was to ask how long the G3258 would last before becoming not sufficient for gaming, not to show how the G3258 performs in games now. There's really no current game (besides ARMA 3 maybe) that it won't handle when overclocked, so not sure what the point of that was.

Because you guys are already saying that it is useless and not able to play those games, when I just showed you examples of it playing all of those games.

Actually ARMA3 will work just fine on the Pentium.  Its a very CPU bound game that depends on strong cores, not many cores.  An overclocked Pentium will run ARMA3.

Where did we say it is useless and not able to play those games? Read the thread man, all I said was that an i3 would be a better idea. This isn't the first time I've seen you jump to heavily defending the G3258 either.

It wont handle multitasking tho

What is wrong with me defending the G3258?  It gets a ton of unnecessary hate.  Its a budget chip, that outperforms its price in a lot of areas.

There's nothing to defend it from? At least not in this thread.
