So i finally rounded up the money to get off my crappy laptop and ascend to a PC. All the parts came and i began to build after hours on Google for "how to install" and LTT videos. However when the moment of truth came, the rig didn't turn on. I am currently under the impression that my mobo was DoA or i somehow messed it up with static electricity. I used the paper clip trick to check the psu and it was fine. i then plugged the psu into an old mobo i have laying around and it turned on as well. But when i use my psu on the new one i bought (MSI A87M-E45) the psu fan wont even turn on. i just want to know if there's an incompatibility that PCpartpicker didn't pick up or some switch i missed that prevents start up.

My Components:

CPU - AMD A8-6600k 3.9GHz Quad-Core

Motherboard - MSI A78-E45 Micro ATX FM2+

Memory - G. Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133

Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM

Video Card - Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 4GB Dual-X

Case - Raidmax ATX-298WBP ATX Mid Tower w/500W Power Supply

i can provide pictures if needed ( i most likely will anyway) to help you guys help me.

It could be that when you installed your mobo into the case, you somehow shorted it out. Check and see if the mobo is sitting on the standoffs properly, it happened to me before. I just had to reposition it a little better and everything came on. Did you try to test bench the parts before the built the components?

i had a problem once when building for a friend that the cpu wasnt sitting right in the socket. turns out that it had a bent pin and putting the cpu cooler on it bent a few more in the process. but remembering linus' video from long ago about how to fix bent cpu pins with a mechanical pencil, i managed to get it seated properly and not it runs like a champ

Sits fine in the case and i hooked it up to the psu outside the case on top of the box the mobo came it.

If it did not even work outside the case, it really seems like DOA.

only bad part about this is its going to take literally forever to get a replacement and im considering just buying a new one just so i can build it before i have to leave for winter break.

See if you can return it in the stores, some stores let you return DOA parts. I know Microcenter does it for sure. I have returned many DOA parts.

I feel your pain. RMAing is a pain in the neck. I had to send in my HDD and it took a few weeks. What am I supposed to do with a PC without a HDD? Do you have a friend, where you can test if the cpu works?
