Wattage for two 290s?

about twice as much as 970's.  :lol: according to guru3d one 290 is 250w~.

Psu should be an 850w for any kind of oc headroom.

That's nowhere near twice the power consumption of a 970. 970 at stock clocks ~ 160W, R9 290 with a slight OC ~250W.

 

OP, ~500W for the R9 290s. With factory overclocked 970s you are usually pretty close to 180W or even 200W per card, so ~350W minimum for SLI 970s. After that you have to factor in everything else though, a modern 4-core intel CPU will stay below 100W even with a moderate OC, then there's mobo + fans + HDDs + ram, which isn't that significant but can add up with certain setups.
